Dolly Rebecca Parton is an American singer-songwriter, actress, humanitarian, and author from Sevier County, Tennessee. Parton grew up performing as a young child on radio and television programs in Eastern Tennessee areas. She recorded for a small Louisiana label at by 13 and appeared at the Grand Ole Opry, where she met a primed Johnny Cash who encouraged her to stick to her dream.  Parton met first international success in the late 60's and early 70's with 'Love is Like A Butterfly', 'Please Don't Stop Loving Me', and 'I Will Always Love You', the latter of which became a number-one single and one of Parton's signature songs. During the late 70's and mid-80's Parton embarked on an effort to have more of a presence in mainstream pop. This endeavor first issued the entirely self-produced 'New Harvest...First Gathering', which was received well but didn't quite touch the pop charts. Her next effort in the same vein however, titled 'Here You Come Again', became her first million-seller and won her the Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance in 1978.  Her experimentation with pop wasn't permanent, and a Parton returning to her country roots could be found in the late 1980's and early 90's; The album's 'White Limozeen' and "Slow Dancing With the Moon' produced several chart-topping country songs. Parton also fiddled with blue grass, releasing several blue grass albums in the early 2000s. As of the 2010's, Parton worked with Billy Ray Cyrus on their album, 'Brother Clyde' and Kenny Rogers on his album 'You Can't Make Old Friends'. In 2014 Parton began her 'Blue Smoke World Tour' in support of her 42nd album, 'Blue Smoke', which upon release debuted in the top 10 of several countries, became her first top 10 album in the US and is her highest-charting solo album ever. (Song Bios Copyright © 2016 J♯)
