Christopher Alvin Stapleton, known simply by "Chris" Stapleton, is an American country singer-songwriter, from Lexington, Kentucky.
Stapleton originally had went to Vanderbilt University where he studied engineering, but dropped out after his first year and moved to Nashville in 2001 to pursue a career in music. He worked as a songwriter for the Sea Gayle Music publishing house for nearly half a decade before becoming front man of the bluegrass group The Steeldrivers in 2007. The SteelDrivers released two hit records before Stapleton departed in 2010 to start his own Southern rock band The Jompson Brothers. The Jompson Brothers was a short-lived but worthwhile endeavor for Stapleton, touring successfully for 3 years and even opening for The Zac Brown Band. His career thus far became the precursor for his international breakthrough in 2015 with his debut solo album, 'Traveller'. 'Traveller' won Stapleton three awards at the 2015 CMA's that include Album of The Year, Male Vocalist of the Year, and New Artist of the Year.
